Map

This three-day itinerary is designed for adventure seekers who want to explore the diverse landscapes and cultures of the Lake Eyasi Basin. From hiking to canoeing and cultural tours, each day promises new experiences and unforgettable memories.

Day 1

Your adventure begins with a guided hike up Mandagaw Hill. The panoramic views of Lake Eyasi and the surrounding landscape are breathtaking. After descending, you enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake.

In the afternoon, you embark on a canoeing trip, gliding across the water while observing the vibrant birdlife. As the sun sets, you return to Eyasi Datoga Campsite for a warm meal and storytelling around the campfire.

Day 2

After enjoying a hearty breakfast at Eyasi Datoga Campsite, you embark on an exciting journey to the Mumba Caves, a significant archaeological site located on the shores of Lake Eyasi. As you arrive, the cool morning air fills your lungs, and the anticipation of exploring this historic site heightens your senses. The Mumba Caves are renowned for their rich deposits that date back to the transition between the Middle Stone Age and the Late Stone Age, providing invaluable insights into early human behavior and cultural evolution.

After your archaeological exploration, you make your way to visit the Hadzabe tribe, one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer communities in Africa. Upon arrival, you are greeted with warm smiles and the rhythmic sounds of traditional music. You have the unique opportunity to participate in a traditional dance, where the vibrant energy of the tribe envelops you. The dance is not just a performance; it’s a celebration of their culture and connection to the land.

Day 3

On your final day, you embark on an enriching guided bushwalk with a Datoga elder, who shares invaluable knowledge about their traditional survival skills and deep connection to the land. As you traverse the scenic landscapes, the elder teaches you how to identify edible plants, track wildlife, and understand the medicinal properties of local flora. This immersive experience not only enhances your appreciation for the Datoga culture but also fosters a deeper respect for nature and its resources.
